Centre Economy
The main crops are composed of grains (wheat, corn...) and grapes. Sugar beet, rape, and sunflowers are also cultivated in that region.
The industrial sector is getting more and more developed, benefiting from the decentralization of Parisian industries. The main part of the manufacturing in Centre relates to the vehicle industry, with large tyre, parts, and plastics plants.
Orléans represents a key transport and commercial centre, with factories into chemicals production, processed foods, textiles, and machinery. The region is a major provider of nuclear energy, with reactors at Dampierre-en-Burly, Saint-Laurent-des-Eaux, and Avoine-Chinon. Tourism is an important aspect of the economy; there are several charming chateaux along the Loire Valley.
In the last decade, the economy of the French region Centre has known a general increase.
Nevertheless some branches of the regions economy (such as industry, property building or tourism) have had problems with providing new jobs or even with keeping pre-existing employment.
But on the whole, the general economic trend of the Centre region is quite similar to the economic situation of France.
